About Mrs. Day:
Although I cannot begin to compete with the knowledge that Albert Einstein possessed, I can say that his quote is one of my personal mantras as I teach the students at Bettie Weaver. It is my goal to instill a passion for art in each and every student. Every child can benefit from lessons learned in the art room, no matter how talented or “artistic” they think they are! We will be working with different art mediums, art tools and techniques throughout the year in art. Each month we will be focusing on a different artist and creating art that represents or relates to that artist in some way. I look forward to inspiring and motivating your child’s creativity! For those new to Bettie Weaver, I have been part of the Weaver family since its beginning. All three of my children went to Weaver, so my days here began as parent helper, Room mom coordinator, Staff Appreciation Chair, etc. My own children have moved on. I spent a week in New York this summer helping Ashby, my oldest, relocate for a new job. My middle child, McGowan, graduated from college, spent a month in Equator and Peru, and is currently looking for a “real” job. And, my youngest son, Madison, made a short move across the river to attend University of Richmond this fall. Alas, I am almost an “empty-nester! As my children moved on from Weaver, I headed back! After a few years in first grade, I headed to the Art room. This will be my sixth year as the art teacher, and I still enjoy “passing on” a little creativity to each of the students I teach. I hope that they will, in turn, share a little of what they are learning with you! |
About Mrs. Tyndall
I am so excited to have all the wonderful Weaver musicians in my classroom! We are going to learn so many new and exciting things together. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us. After graduating from VCU with a degree in Music Education, I moved to New York City and taught Music at a Private School while obtaining my Early Childhood Education Certificate. Other than my year in the Big Apple, I have lived in the Richmond area for most of my life and I am so happy to be back in my favorite city! When I’m not at school, you can find me obsessing over spin class, spending time with my musical husband, or cuddling with my fur-baby, Luna. This year, each grade level will participate in a music program that incorporates movement and song. Please be on the lookout for more information about these performances! I am very passionate about the subject that I teach--Music is the best! Singing is my primary instrument, but my “FAV” thing about music is how it brings people and communities together. It is my mission to instill a love of learning and music to my students to ensure that you are all life-long learners. I am so excited to see what this year has in store for us, your families, and the wonderful Weaver community! |
About Mrs. Manchester:
Hello and welcome to Physical Education at Bettie Weaver! My name is Tracy Manchester and I am proud to say that I have been here at Weaver since the doors opened in 1994! Let me say that I LOVE working with all of the wonderful Weaver families through Physical Education, Happy Feet, Milers Club and Buddy Field Day! My goal in Physical Education to help in guiding all students to discover an activity, sport, and/or exercise plan that they love and that will keep them moving for life. We talk a lot about finding our “niche”, movement that makes us happy, movement that gives us joy! We also talk about the body/brain connection; exercise does so much to enhance our learning ability and experience! Our curriculum is one where all basic skills and sports are taught during elementary school so that students will have a base knowledge and some experience in many sports/activities. The goal being that as they move on to middle school, high school and life after school they have that experience to draw on as they decide which sports/activities they would like to pursue. Ours is a skills based curriculum where students learn the breakdown and components of skills throughout elementary school. For example, instead of playing kickball and hoping the kids learn to kick through the game, the skill of kicking is broken down into components and taught over several years so that all students learn to kick. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Health and Physical Education and a minor in Dance. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family which includes a husband, three kids and two dogs. Coaching the JRHS Varsity Cheer Program, kayaking on The James, walking, biking, walking, and reading are some of the activities I enjoy after school and on weekends. |
About Sr. Girón-López:
¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español! Hello, this is the website for Spanish. Here you will find information about me and what is going on in the Spanish classroom. First, let’s start with my personal information: My complete name is Luis Alejandro Girón López. I was born in Granada, Spain. A beautiful small city in the south of Spain, where you can swim in the Mediterranean Sea and 45 minutes later you can ski in the highest mountain of the Iberian Peninsula, the Sierra Nevada. In 2003, I graduated from the University of Granada with a bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education. In 2008, I graduated from VCU with a bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, and in 2010 I received the endorsement to teach Social Studies for K-12 grade. 2019-20 is going to be my 12th year as a full time teacher at Chesterfield County Public Schools and my 9th as a full time teacher at B.Weaver, hopefully more to come. :) I have a lot of passions. I love to travel and learn about different cultures and traditions. I also love movies and music. I write for a Spanish website specializing in movie soundtracks. My column is about the world of cinema and television. Another of my passions is basketball. I used to play back home, and I also was the coach of a school team. I have been a huge fan of the NBA since 1984 and I have never missed an NBA Finals game in 35 years; on television of course! I hope you are as interested as I am in helping your child see the importance of learning Spanish and the culture of all the Spanish speaking countries around the world. |
About Library and Mrs. Rowe
Mrs. Rowe is thrilled to be the librarian at Bettie Weaver Elementary! She loves working with students and helping them find just the right book or helping them discover something new about the world. Her love of books started the moment her mother put the book Charlotte’s Web in her hands. She reads because it allows her to travel to places beyond her own neighborhood and to help her understand someone’s life that might be very different from her own. In her free time, she ushers at the Altria and Virginia Repertory Theater to enjoy the latest in musical theater. She also loves cooking (especially baking pies) and spending time with her husband and daughters Charlotte and Liza.
